Trinity's Pack Carries The Day In Kentucky 3A Meet

It was the definition of a group effort Saturday afternoon for the Trinity For Boys cross country team. At Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Trinity placed four runners eighth through 11th place and all five in the top 25 to score 54 points to win the 3A State Cross Country Championship.  

“All these guys — they just worked their tails off all year long,” Trinity coach Scott Holzknecht told the courier-journal.com.  “They really came together today.”

Trinity’s win snapped Xavier’s run of three straight titles. Xavier finished in second place (112). Senior Jack Baum was the top finished for Trinity in eight place (16:24.8). Madisonville North Hopkins senior Christian Parker won the 5,000 meter race in 15:48.2.

In girls, Oldham County scored 64 points to win away with the 3A title as four runners finished in the top 20. Daviess County finished second with 174 points. Eighth grader Ciara O'Shea of Madison Central crossed the line first in 18:41.9.

The Lexington Catholic boys repeated as 2A state champions led by senior Ben Cole’s third place finish (16:40.2). Senior Colton Bullington of Warren East claimed the individual title in 16:20.2.

The Scott City girls edged out Highland 106-115 to win the 2A title. Highland sophomore Maggie Schroeder won the race in 19:07.6.

In 1A action, the Holy Cross boys tallied 62 points to defend their title, while Bishop Brossart scored 107 to win the girls title again. The Holy Cross boys were paced by Keeton Thornsberry’s 15:46.39 winning time, as the team placed three runners in the top six. 

Freshman Anna Rupp of Lexington Christian won the girls race in 19:02.5. Bishop Brossart had four runners in the top 25.
